The UN Country Team (UNCT) drives UN activities at the country level. UNCT Malawi comprises the heads of all resident UN funds, programmes and specialized agencies. The IMF and World Bank are also members. Each UN Country Team agency is responsible for responding to the national development plans, as formulated by the government, to guide their own agency programmes.

In promotion of simplified and harmonised operational activities of the UN, the UN Operations Managers Team (OMT) plays a central role in supporting the UNCT Malawi. The focus of OMT's work is on development of cost-effective common services & common premises and on critical review of the varying financial and human resources regulations of different UN organisations.
